Personal thought on the statement 05/08/2008
M.Divya's thoughtsDid I mention my premedical degree? For those of you who want to know about pressure....apply! But seriously, I put so much effort into my personal statement. In fact I have written way too many statements, for various programs. What is a personal statement anyway? A few pages about your "excellent" self? How many volunteer activities can an average person pursue in a lifetime and balance their academic life? I really wonder. Kudos to you if you are a super-hero, but I humbly admit, my personal statements were just that: personal. I encourage you to stop selling yourself to colleges. Just be yourself, It sounds silly, but actually if you be yourself in your statements and interviews, then the college that selects you will reflect your personality. You will spend 2 years for an associates, 4 years for a bachelors degree. Wouldn't you want your college to embrace you? Yes Ivy leagues are wonderful , and all colleges have their screening process. But this process includes analyzing if your a faker or not! I am not a professional interviewer, but I believe someone who is, can read you like the black and white font on your essay. So if you're attacking the personal statement, for your own sanity - be yourself. Comments Comments are closed.
