Hello, my name is Meryl, and I am a Teacher.
Diversity is the name of the game these days, and I am an avid player. I have attended various schools in the United States as well as other parts of the world. My education began in New York in the Scarsdale School System. My experience there has taught me to think on my feet. I graduated from Randolph Macon Academy in Virginia, which provided me with leadership skills and the pursuit of excellence in all endeavors. Christ College in Bangalore, India, has provided me a place to learn my culture as well as an understanding of different viewpoints. Western Michigan University (WMU) provided me a place to incorporate all I have learned and practice my skills, and develop my talents. My first major was Food Marketing, and under that program I was awarded the Coca-Cola Scholarship. However, I changed my major to Biomedical Science with a Minor in Chemistry. I graduated from WMU with honors (“Cum Laude”). I have also attended one month of medical school in the Caribbean, which was both an amazing and humbling experience. However I chose to pursue another career in which I can help people and that is through the instruction and leadership we provide through education. In November 2005 I joined CrossLink Business Development, Inc. in Tucson, Arizona as an Assistant Project Manager. In time I was given the additional responsibility of Support Services Manager. In 2006 I became a Marketing Project Manager. I trained and managed offshore agents remotely in Bangalore India, and I supervise projects from inception to completion. I believe my background and skill set will be an asset now and in the future, and I am grateful to have an education that has been both diverse and empowering. Science and math are ever changing fields. I aim to forever be a student, and constantly grow and learn. I believe my major and experiences will guide me through this academic process.
I believe the effective teacher will encourage and motivate the student. I believe the professional teacher will impress values on the student. I believe the caring teacher will induce reciprocity from the student, and then efficient and effective learning can take place.
My motto is that individual results vary. Whatever the situation I believe a unique approach will work at different times. I will always treat my students as the individuals they are, and promote uniqueness of character, credentials and creativity. I will work with parents to establish an understanding of what is expected from the students, that a well balanced home environment helps create room for academic success.
Science and math are not easy subjects to sell to students. However, I am prepared for the challenge. As Robert Frost said, “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I... I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference”. I plan to make all the difference.
